Assort was born on 9 June, 2022.

That’s not even that long ago, yet it feels like Assort’s been here as long as I can remember.

The lore goes something like this… I needed a place to store level codes for my custom Appel levels. I’d only recently started using GitHub, but I thought a repo would do nicely. Somewhere along the way, the idea popped into my mind for a repo that would hold many of my personal projects.

You can see Assort grow and blossom in the months that follow, as I come to realise I can put everything – everything – I create here.

Why do I love Assort?

It is me. It is all of me, pure as can be. Etched into the commit hashes of this repo are the days and nights of my life, years of loving work, the essence of my soul.

I didn’t create Assort for anyone other than myself. Sure, I put a lot of stuff in here in the hopes that someday, another stray soul will stumble upon it in delight – but regardless whether that happens or not, I find contentment in creating content. It’s fun for me to read my own work, especially stuff I haven’t touched in years, and reminisce about all the stuff I was into. Sometimes, my past genius dazzles me.

Assort will never be finished, but that’s just how the world works.

Life doesn’t have to be so dramatic, but… we had a good run.
